A Cooperative Preschool is a Parent Involved Preschool!
The cooperative preschool environment is perfect for parents who want to be actively involved in their child’s first school experience and who would like to contribute their time and abilities to a small community of families. Both parents and children benefit from parents assisting in the classroom.
Parents:
- Have the opportunity to network with parents of other preschoolers. Learn ways to reinforce the skills and ideas their children are learning at school
- Gain understanding about the development of young children and ideas on how to interact with them.
Children:
- Benefit from the experiences of many “teachers” with many different skills. Learn through positive role modeling.
- Benefit from having their families directly involved in their school.
Parent Responsibilities:
- Teach/parent approximately two times a month – divided among Art, Project, Snack, and Alternate Parent responsibilities. Bring snack 4-5 times a year. Arrive at 8:40 a.m. and stay as long as needed.
- Serve on a committee
- Assist in Preschool set-up and clean-up days (approximately two hours each). Assist with fundraising – Gold C, Garage sale, Grocery certificates, etc. Attend two general meetings (Fall and Spring) and an orientation prior to the start of school.
- Other Activities: Summer play dates, home visit with Mrs. Bonnema, parent teacher conferences (twice a year), field trips, Halloween party, Holiday party, Springfest
- Communications: Monthly newsletters, cubbies, email and website, and bulletin board
